 2.  ALPHONSO8 HAWORTH (ELI7, JOEL6, RICHARD5, JAMES 4, GEORGE3, JAMES2, HENRY1) was born May 05, 1850 in Fountain City, IN?, and died December 19, 1943 in East Mayport, FL.  He married RUTH ELLEN WILLIAMS May 15, 1882 in New Garden, NC, daughter of WILLIAM WILLIAMS and CLEOPATRA DIXON.  She was born September 14, 1862 in Snow Camp, NC, and died April 21, 1935 in Duval Co., FL. 


Name given as Alphonso Dixon Haworth on son Fred's death certificate. 

Was a member of Jacksonville Chapter No. 12, R.A.M., Knights of Pythias. 

WARANTEE DEED, May 4, 1874, Eli & Ann T. Haworth of Duval Co., FL, to Michael Borres & Alphonso Haworth of Duval Co., FL, property in Duval Co., FL, for $312.  Filed July 3, 1874 and recorded in Book V, pgs. 539, 540, 541 & 542. 

BOND FOR TITLE, May 15, 1894, from Alphonso Haworth to Joseph Floyd, both of Duval Co., FL, for property in Duval Co., FL, for a total sum of $100. 

AGREEMENT between Alphonso Haworth & E. T. Copp, both of Duval Co., FL, Aug. 4, 1894, for property in Duval Co. 

DEED OF CONVEYANCE, Aug. 27, 1897, Alphonso, Helen [sic] & Ann T. Haworth to Harry C. Steele property in Duval Co. for $4,500. 

WARRANTY DEED, Feb. 17, 1898, Alphonso & Ellen Haworth to Ann T. Haworth, 30 acres in Duval Co. for $100.  Filed Mar. 1, 1898; recorded in Book 112, pg. 8.

QUIT-CLAIM DEED, Jan. 2, 1926, Harry C. & Cynthia V. Steele to Alphonso Haworth, property in Duval Co. for $10 and other valuable consideration.  Filed Jan. 23, 1926, No. 135-779-A.

Sent Lenore & Adison & Lindon to the orphants Home June 9 - 1904 in Jacksonville I paid $12 per month. 


HAWORTH--Funeral services for Alphonso Haworth, 93, of Mayport, who died Sunday after a long illness, will be held at 11 A. M., today at the graveside in Mayport Cemetery, with the Rev. J. Hannewald officiating.  Mr. Haworth is survived by four sons, F. D., A. T., H. L., and L. A. Haworth; one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Arnau, all of Mayport; fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Elliott Funeral Home.

Occupation 2: Copartnership with I. B. Robertson in foundry & machine shop business.  May have been called Hickory Foundry Co. or Haworth & Puckett, Machinists, Hickory, NC.

Occupation 3: Bet. May 1906 - September 1907, Alphonso apparently also worked on a dredge as he received mail addressed c/o U.S. Dredge St. Johns. 


Notation in Ellen's Bible: "Bobbie - Aug. 28, 1892 - Alimance [sic] Co., NC".  Was this another child of hers? 

Received at Mayport Presbyterian Church by letter from Methodist Church ("Letter M.E.") April 6, 1912. 


Pioneer Resident of Mayport Dies

   Mrs. Ruth E. Haworth, 73, of Mayport, died Sunday.  She was a pioneer resident of Mayport and had been a resident for 53 years.  She came to Mayport from Liberty, N. C.

   She is survived by her widower, Alfonso [sic] Haworth; two daughters, Mrs. C. A. Anderson and Mrs. J. R. Arnau; four sons, T. D. Haworth, L. A. Haworth, A. T. Haworth, of Mayport, and H. R. Haworth, of Hickery [sic], N. C.; two brothers, Frank Williams and Murphy Williams, of Liberty, N. C., and 11 grandchildren.

   The body will be at the family residence at Mayport until Tuesday afternoon when burial will take place.  Arrangements are in the charge of the Elliott Funeral home.

Received at Mayport Presbyterian Church by letter March 31, 1929.  Minutes of Session dated March 19, 1938 states, "The pastor reported to the session that...Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson had renewed their former relations as members of the South Jacksonville Christian Church." 


Mrs. Lillie Anderson Dies, Funeral Today

   Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie May Anderson, 55, of Mayport, who died early yesterday in a Jacksonville hospital following a brief illness, will be held at 3 P. M. today in the chapel of the Elliott Funeral Home.  The Rev. Carl R. Leavitt, associate pastor of the Edgewood Avenue Christian Church, will officiate.

   Pallbearers will be: Dr. E. B. Pritchard, Judge James L. Gavagan, R. M. Coleman, W. Howard Belote, Walter Floyd, Henry McDonald, W. P. Chambers and Neal Tyler.  Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

   Mrs. Anderson was a life-long resident of Duval County and she and her husband, Charles A. Anderson, operated The Shack at Seminole Beach.  Besides her husband, Mrs. Anderson is survived by her father, Alfonso [sic] Haworth; four brothers, Addison, Linden and Fred Haworth of Mayport, and Roy Haworth of Hickory, N. C., and one sister, Mrs. Nora Arnau, Mayport.  Mrs. Anderson was a life member of the Christian Church.
